Winter 2026 Digital Accessibility Programming
In alignment with our focus this academic year on accessibility, Instructional Technology will continue to offer our three-part workshop series on digital accessibility to support you in ensuring your course documents and media are fully accessible to all students. Per a recent ruling regarding Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, all Camino content must meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA accessibility standards by a May 11, 2026 deadline. More information will be sent soon about this deadline, but we wanted to continue supporting you with programming throughout this term. We have designed these three workshops to ensure you can create accessible content and manage inaccessible documents:
-
- Creating Accessible Documents
- Making Your Camino Course Accessible
- Managing Inaccessible Documents in Camino
In addition to these three workshops, there are a few other opportunities for support:
- Instructional Technology will be offering weekly implementation hours for you to join us for further support after workshops (or if you just want some extra help).
- Instructional Technology is developing and offering an asynchronous course on digital accessibility that covers all topics in these live workshops. Be on the lookout for an email later in the term announcing the course.
- Faculty Development will be hosting some Shut Up and Make It Accessible events for more supported work time. See the Faculty Development calendar for dates.
Format
Some workshops will be held in-person in the Learning Commons, and others will be facilitated via Zoom. All workshops will be facilitated by the Instructional Technology team in collaboration with Santa Clara faculty.
Schedule
Each workshop is offered multiple times throughout the term. View the calendar to sign up.
Supplemental Pay
Faculty of all appointment types will receive a $150 supplemental stipend for each 2-hour digital accessibility workshop they complete. QLs/SLs can only receive stipends for workshops undertaken during periods of active employment.
Creating Accessible Documents
You can provide equal access to all students through leveling up your digital accessibility knowledge! In this workshop, we will cover best practices in creating accessible materials in Word, PowerPoint, and Google Apps. You will also learn how to use the accessibility checkers built into these tools. All sessions are 2 hours, held either on campus or over Zoom.
Making Your Camino Course Accessible
Get to know the tools SCU provides to faculty to support accessibility for all students. In this workshop, you will get hands-on experience using Camino’s accessibility tools—UDOIT and Convert. You will also learn good practices for creating accessible learning content in Camino (text formatting, videos, images, and link descriptions). All sessions are 2 hours, held either on campus or over Zoom.
Managing Inaccessible Documents in Camino
Create a personalized plan for ensuring your course materials are accessible to all students. In this workshop, you will learn how to identify inaccessible files in Camino and determine the best workflow for modifying or replacing them. We will also review the resources available to you for managing inaccessible files. All sessions are 2 hours, held either on campus or over Zoom.
