Action Required:
If you are not already enrolled, you should enroll in Duo 2FA before November 9. Beginning Tuesday November 9, all students will be required to register in Duo 2FA when logging into a protected application such as Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, or Workday. Self-enrolling before that date will ensure your access to SCU resources is not interrupted.
How do I sign up for Duo?
A quickstart guide for enrolling with an iPhone or Android phone can be found here: https://www.scu.edu/technology/get-connected/duo/duo-setup-quickstart/
The physical devices you may use with Duo include:
- Smartphone app
- Tablet app
- Text-capable mobile phone
- U2F Security Key, such as a YubiKey
- TouchID on Apple devices
Instructions for enrolling other devices, such as a Security Key or TouchID on an Apple laptop can be can be found at: https://www.scu.edu/technology/get-connected/duo/duo-help-guide/#enroll
How will Duo change my login experience?
When logging in to an application that is protected by Duo, you will still enter your username and password. After inputting your login information, Duo requires you to complete a method of second-factor authentication. This could be tapping on your smartphone app, using your fingerprint on a TouchID-capable Apple device, or inserting a USB hardware token. Duo does not replace or require you to change your username and password. Think of Duo as a layer of security added to your pre-existing login method.
What if I don’t have my phone (or other authentication device) and I need to log in?
We recommend setting up multiple authentication devices with Duo. For example, register both your smartphone and a U2F-compatible Security Key (such as a Yubikey). You can add several authentication devices. However, if you are without your Duo device and you have registered an alternate email address in eCampus, you can use our Bypass Code Generator to request a temporary, one-time passcode which will be emailed to your non-scu email address.
What happens next?
Students not currently using Duo are encouraged to self-enroll in Duo as soon as possible. Students who have not enrolled by November 9 will be automatically enrolled; this will interrupt your access until you’ve registered an authentication device. We recommend you self-enroll before the deadline to ensure your access to SCU resources is not interrupted.
