Financial Aid Policies

New Students

Only students who have applied and been admitted to the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University (JST-SCU) are eligible for financial assistance. To be considered for aid, complete the Financial Aid Application by March 1st for the fall semester and October 1st for the spring semester. Financial aid applications are available in the Office of Admissions and Enrollment Management, admissions@jstb.edu. You may also refer to this office for information regarding additional application materials for special scholarships.

Continuing Students

Current students who plan to return for the following academic year must also complete the Financial Aid Application. Refer to the Office of Admissions and Enrollment Management for Financial Aid Application forms and for information regarding additional application materials required for special scholarships.

Awarding Criteria

All students who complete the Financial Aid Application will be considered for aid. Tuition grants and special scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need and excellent academic achievement and/or academic potential. Preference is given to students enrolled in JST-SCU’s degree programs, particularly students enrolled in the Master of Divinity (MDiv) program. Graduate Theological Union Common M.A. and M.A.B.L. students who are affiliated with JST-SCU and students in certificate or sabbatical programs are also encouraged to apply for aid.

Programs to Meet Financial Aid

There are internal work-study opportunities available at JST-SCU. Students who are interested in a part-time job at the school should apply for financial aid and answer "yes" to the work-study question. We mail information about job openings during the summer.

JST-SCU also participates in the Federal Direct Loan Program, which offers low-cost loans to degree or certificate students who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens. To apply, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, as well as the Graduate Theological Union (GTU) Financial Aid application, which is available at www.gtu.edu. The JST-SCU FAFSA school code is G10333. For more information, please contact the GTU.
