We are pleased to announce the creation of a new position, Director of Intercultural Initiatives, and that Simon C. Kim has been hired to serve as our first director.

We are pleased to announce the creation of a new position, Director of Intercultural Initiatives, and that Simon C. Kim has been hired to serve as our first director.

A Step Towards our Strategic Plan

This position was constructed as a direct result of our strategic planning process, which aims to solidify JST as the leader in the academic and applied theology of culturally contextualized theology. Fr. Kim will help us realize this promise.

Expanding Our Global Theology Initiative

In this role, Fr. Kim will:

  • oversee the administration of JST's local and international immersion courses,
  • direct our new Global Theology Initiative, which will connect us more deeply with the six other English-speaking theology centers sponsored by the Jesuits around the world, and
  • supervise our current programming related to Hispanic ministerial and theological formation and expand this programming to other cultural groups in the Catholic Church.

Embracing a Global Church

Dr. Kim has consulted on various USCCB projects and knows the Jesuit community well, both in the U.S. and abroad. As a Korean American and priest of the Diocese of Orange, CA, Simon explains, "I truly believe that we cannot isolate ourselves in a singular context but need other cultures to help us understand our realities in order to truly embrace a global Church."
