Update on Non-Tenure-Track Faculty Unionization
Dear Colleagues,
As some of you may know, we were unable to come to an election agreement with the SEIU and AFLOC, despite the good faith efforts of all involved. I appreciate the expressions of concern that have been voiced publicly and privately on all sides of this issue, and would like to assure our community that I am grateful for our shared commitment to fairness and respect.
We will continue to devote time and attention to advancing the Santa Clara we want for all our colleagues — including our fixed-term and renewable-term faculty members — through collaborative governance and through a new vision of the teaching scholar that fully encompasses all of our faculty. This work will require the support and cooperation of our tenure-stream faculty members and governance leaders, in addition to academic leadership and our community at large. I am committed to this work, and am hopeful for meaningful progress. In the meantime, I wish you the best as the final quarter and semester of this challenging year move rapidly along.
Sincerely,
Lisa A. Kloppenberg
Acting President
