LEAD Seminar Instructor
Jona Salamanca (él/elle/he/they) has worked in higher education since 2016 when he began as an Assistant Resident Director at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Originally from Chicago, Jona received his undergraduate degree in Journalism and Political Science from Dominican University in River Forest, IL. Thereafter, they spent time in Ecuador serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer teaching English as a foreign language. While in the Peace Corps, Jona developed a critical perspective on teaching wherein he learned how to critique structures of power and oppression within education. In 2018, Jona received their master's in higher education and student affairs from Loyola University Chicago. Since then Jona has continued to be a justice-centered educator within residence life leading students to transformative learning experiences in the residence halls and on-campus. Currently, Jona is a LEAD seminar instructor. In addition to his duties with the LEAD program, Jona is an involved member in the San Jose community.
