Fall 2016

Letter from the University Librarian

Dear Friends,

The focus of our Fall 2016 newsletter is the amazing work occurring in SCU’s Archives & Special Collections. Not familiar with Archives & Special Collections (A&SC)? Located on the third floor of the Library, their collections focus on the history of the University, Mission Santa Clara, women religious, missionaries and travel, and Jesuitica. These unique collections provide our faculty and students opportunities to incorporate primary research materials in the classroom.

A new collecting focus in A&SC is the work of women religious, commonly known as nuns. The cornerstone that spurred this focus is the donation of the professional papers and personal archives of Sr. Sandra Schneiders, the first tenured female professor at SCU’s Jesuit School of Theology. We hope you will visit us at the A&SC Gallery to view an exhibit of these materials, which will be displayed through March 17, 2017.

It is through the generosity of donors that the University Library continues to support educational programming, student success, and initiatives, such as the A&SC Apprenticeship Program. In this issue you will meet the first A&SC student apprentice and learn what she took away from this special experience.

Please consider supporting this program at the Library as part of your charitable giving. You may click here to make a gift and designate it to the University Library.

Thank you for your continued support.
