Prepare: Global Heroes, an electronic magazine (e-zine), was created to "highlight the positive in the world" by publishing inspirational stories of people from different countries. One of the inspirational people they've written about is Nadja Haililbegovich.

Read: Nadja Halilbegovich wrote an original essay for the Architects of Peace project. In it, she relates her personal experience of living in a war zone in Sarajevo for four years.

Explore: The United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, established in 1995, was able to be terminated at the end of 2002. One of the major projects of the mission had been to restructure and reform the national police force, thus providing for the security of the citizenry. The fact that the United Nations could actually consider its mission to be accomplished after a period of seven years was considered by many to be a major step forward in the global peacekeeping process. Please visit the UN website or more information on the Bosnia and Herzegovina Mission.

Write: In her Architects of Peace essay, Nadja Halilbegovich quotes her father's maxim, "One who doesn't respect the religion of others cannot respect one's own." While the truth of this statement is evident, it becomes difficult not to observe that a great deal of warfare, even in this modern age, is between believers from different faith traditions. Shouldn't people of faith be less likely to participate in armed conflict than others? Compose a three-to-four page expository essay exploring the relationship between religion, respect, and peace.

Extend: Nadja Halilbegovich has been a longtime supporter of an organization called Youth for Environmental Sanity (YES!), and has spoken at one of the "Youth Jams" sponsored by that organization.
