The
Division of Mission and Ministry and the Center for Sustainability are embarking on a year-long action planning process
Sustainable SCU: Leading Through Laudato Si'. The expansive process will help us set SCU's goals and strategies for building a more
humane, just, and sustainable world through 2030, inspired by the Pope's encyclical
Laudato Si’: On Care For Our Common Home.
Our environmental justice and sustainability work over more than a decade have made this moment possible.
We want to make sure we have broad, inclusive, and diverse participation in this process, so we're looking for you to get involved. How?
- Check out our website to learn more about the year-long process.
- Share your ideas for SCU's action plan! Join us at two tUrn week events on October 12 or through Zoom events in Week 5. Can't attend those events? Provide your ideas through our online Feedback Form.
- Participate with your campus organization in a 15-minute presentation given by the Center for Sustainability that gathers your group's ideas for the planning process. Please send an email to sustainability@scu.edu offering a few options for upcoming organization meetings so we can arrange a visit.
- Nominate yourself by October 14 for one of our working groups (academics, campus engagement, community engagement, operations - energy, and operations - resources). Faculty, staff, administrators, undergraduate and graduate students, along with alums from across the campus community will spend approximately 15 hours over the year working together on this planning process. They'll attend four 90-minute working group meetings throughout the year, along with a 90-minute kick-off summit the afternoon of October 24th (3-4:30 PM), and a 90-minute summit in Spring Quarter.
SCU's mission to 'build a more humane, just, and sustainable world' grounds our shared commitment to caring for our common home and all those who share the earth with us. Sustainable SCU will help us chart a course to make a difference.
Please participate however you can in this important planning process. This is the call to make sustainability and environmental justice matter on campus, in our daily lives, and in the communities we belong to.
On behalf of the Center for Sustainability and the Division of Mission and Ministry, thank you for your support and consideration for this vital project.
