Spanish Studies Program Requirements

 

MAJOR– minimum of 40 Upper Division Units - UPDATED: Fall 2020

Spanish Major requirements to total a minimum of 40 quarter units of upper division work.  At least 20 of these units must be taken at SCU or taught by SCU faculty.

As part of their program, student must include the following:

  • One course chosen from 100, 101 or 101M
  • One course chosen from 102 or 103 
  • One course chosen from 100 to 110 (not taken to fulfill the above two requirements)
  • Spanish 175 or 176
  • Three (3) courses above the 110 level (one MUST be a literature and culture course)
  • One additional Spanish elective of Upper Division work (not taken to fulfill any above requirements
  • 20 Units taken at SCU or taught by SCU Faculty
  • Maintain a grade point average of 2.0 in major

 

MINOR– minimum of 19 Upper Division Units - UPDATED: Fall 2020

Spanish Minor requirements to total 19 quarter units of Upper Division work. At least 10 of these units must be taken at SCU or taught by SCU faculty.  

As part of the Minor program, the following courses must be included:

  • One course from 100, 101, or 101M
  • One course from 102 or 103
  • Spanish 175 or 176
  • One course in literature and culture
  • 10 units taken at SCU or taught by SCU faculty
  • Maintain a grade point average of 2.0 in minor

A junior year of study in a country where Spanish is spoken is recommended, but not required.
