Jeffrey Burkholder

Academic Year Adjunct Lecturer

After completing his undergraduate degree at U.C. Berkeley, Jeff Burkholder moved to France for his graduate work, studying Comparative Literature and French at the University of Paris III, La Sorbonne-Nouvelle. His doctoral thesis studied ideas and representations of nature in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century France. His research interests include aesthetics and romanticism, as well as the philosophy and politics of nature. In parallel, he has developed a keen interest in language acquisition and theories of communication. Jeff is delighted to be joining, in Fall 2019, the department of Modern Languages and Literatures as an Adjunct Lecturer, and is eager to assume Santa Clara University’s commitment to social justice and to educating the whole person.
