A Day in the Life

Come to Open House 2016 and experience a day in the life of one of the most beautiful campuses in Northern California.

Come to Open House 2016 and experience a day in the life of one of the most beautiful campuses in Northern California. This annual event is designed to help prospective students and their families learn more about the intellectual climate and campus community at Santa Clara University.

Who is Santa Clara? We’re students, teachers, and mentors headquartered in the most innovative place on earth: Silicon Valley. Different people flourish here. Santa Clara University people—with their gifts and goals—are driven to build a better, kinder, more humane, and sustainable planet. We come from all walks of life. We travel seas, coasts, highways, and city blocks to call SCU home. And when we’re together, home is exactly what this place feels like.

Are you one of us? We can’t wait to find out. We look forward to welcoming you to campus. Go Broncos!

The Best Places on Campus

  • New Favorite: Dowd Art Building. Old Favorite: Mission Gardens.

  • Dowd, the new art building. It's incredibly well designed and beautiful.
    - Sam Topp ’19, Computer Science, Women’s and Gender Studies

  • My favorite spot is by far the Mission Gardens directly to the left of the Mission Church. There's not a lot of foot traffic through that area and it has always been a place for me to reflect and take a break from the busy-ness.
    - Makena Wong ’17, Civil Engineering, Sustainability

  • My favorite location on campus is Benson since it's the hub of socialization while living on campus. I know that I can go to Benson and always find a friend that I can sit with and enjoy a nice lunch or dinner. If you go to Benson, you have to eat the tater tots!
    - Amanda Torrez ’17, Political Science, Philosophy, Entrepreneurship

  • Mission Gardens! It is the perfect spot to relax and take in all of the beauty this campus has to offer!
    - Madison Tuck ’19, Communication Studies, Theatre

  • The Solar Decathlon House next to Malley. Not only is it a super cool house, it's a perfect example of how SCU empowers students to dream big and gives them the resources to be able to turn those dreams into actual, physical projects.
    - Nathan Metzger ’17, Mechanical Engineering, Music

  • My favorite location on campus is the flower covered terraces next to Mission Church in front of Nobili.
    - Cynthia Le ’17, Computer Science and Engineering, Dance

  • While here, make sure you check out the Mission Gardens! This oasis here in Claradise is a beautiful study spot, a fantastic walking route among rose bushes in full bloom, and a great place to hang out when you want to relax and soak up some sun.

What’s Great About Being a Bronco

  • Great professors, amazing on-campus living, and being in the Bay Area.
    - Riley McShane ’19, Political Science

  • The best thing about being a Bronco is our Bronco community. Everyone is so loving and caring and goes out of their way to make sure everyone feels like they belong!
    - Ryba Bhullar ’19, Accounting, Spanish

  • I have such an amazing group of friends who make every day an amazing day to be a Bronco. I couldn't imagine who I would be without the people in my life that I love.
    - Quincey Gilbert ’19, Biology, Chemistry

  • The best part about being a Bronco is the strong community support you become a part of throughout your four years here and beyond.
    - Cammie Lattimer ’19, Communication, Retail Studies

  • My favorite part about being a Bronco is being a part of the Santa Clara community. Everyone here, including the students, the professors, the Jesuits, and everyone else who works at SCU, is part of a family, and as a family, everyone supports each other unconditionally.
    - Atticus McCoy ’19, Bioengineering

  • I love the diversity of programs and activities that the university has to offer for its students to get involved. I am constantly meeting new people with so many different interests and passions in the search for common good and social justice.
    - Areli Hernandez ’19, Political Science, Spanish, Ethnic Studies

  • You will never find a school that does a better job of combining positive values and business. Collaboration, respect, and honesty are some of our strongest values, which can be missing in business, and the university does an incredible job at mixing the two.
    - Dylan DeTray ’18, Finance, Japanese

  • My favorite part of being a Bronco is how easy it is to get involved! No matter what you're interested in there's a group on campus that you can join. Anything from backpacking to salsa dancing, from pre-med to club sports, from campus ministry to traveling abroad; additionally, if you want to start your own club that's really easy too.
    - Chonsa Schmidt ’18, Environmental Science, Entrepreneurship

  • The best part of being a Bronco is the genuine pride that we have about being an SCU student—it is infectious!
    - Kalina Venugopal ’17, Theatre

  • The welcoming nature of everyone here; from students to professors to the person that makes your sandwich at the deli, you can strike up a conversation with anyone. Also, coming from Wisconsin, the 300+ days of sunshine aren't so bad either.
    - Kati Conley ’19, Sociology, Economics

  • The community. You'll feel so cool walking around campus getting high fives and "hey!"s from even the people you hardly know. Everyone is so friendly, but genuinely so. I couldn't ask for a better home.
    - Sam Topp ’19, Computer Science, Women’s and Gender Studies

  • Having incredible faculty always available who are willing to go beyond their role as a lecturer to mentor you and invest in you as a human being.
    - Makena Wong ’17, Civil Engineering, Sustainability

  • SCU has provided me opportunities that I would have never dreamt of had I not attended this university. Santa Clara is truly unique and whatever you are interested in, I am positive that we have a program to cater to those interests. For example, I was interested in traveling abroad and was able to do that through the Global Fellows program. Prior to this experience, I had never even thought about traveling outside of the U.S. In this way, SCU is truly a unique place willing to cater to the passions of our students.
    - Amanda Torrez ’17, Political Science, Philosophy, Entrepreneurship

  • What's great about being a Bronco to me is being surrounded by other incredible Broncos! I feel so lucky to go to a school where I am constantly being challenged and supported by my peers, professors, and mentors. SCU surely is a community, and I am just so grateful to be a part of it!
    - Madison Tuck ’19, Communication Studies, Theatre

  • All of your different interests can be supported on campus. Even with my varied interests as a Mechanical Engineering major and Music minor, I've been able to get involved in activities for both and be supported in all my passions at SCU.
    - Nathan Metzger ’17, Mechanical Engineering, Music

  • The abundance of opportunities and resources to pursue anything you are passionate about and be supported along the whole way!
    - Cynthia Le ’17, Computer Science and Engineering, Dance

  • Meet current SCU students and faculty, and fall in love with the community, just as I have. Regardless of whether you are eating in Benson, heading to Stevens Stadium for a soccer game, or walking over to Lucas Hall, you will experience laughs, smiles, hellos, and the genuine love and sense of community that Broncos share.
    - Eoin Lyons ’19, Business, Political Science
