Historical Background

 

In 1999, students, staff and faculty at SCU saw the need to raise awareness of the LGBTQ community. The Safe Space initiative was started to promote awareness and allyship for the LGBTQ community. In 2010 a group of SCU community members wrote a proposal to create a physical space that focused on the needs of Santa Clara's LGBTQ community. In 2011, the Rainbow Resource Center was established and located in Benson 11 under the purview of the Office for Multicultural Learning. Today, the RRC is flourishing with the direction of 5 student coordinators and the Assistant Director of OML.
