Parents are encouraged, but not required, to attend Summer Orientation with their student. Parent Orientation will introduce parents to the values, goals, and practices of Santa Clara University. Parents will meet and interact with administrators, faculty, staff, and student leaders. Although the student and parent programs are held on the same dates, a majority of the sessions are conducted separately.
Because of space limitations, we can accommodate a maximum of two parents or guests per student.
Please note that Summer Orientation is geared towards parent/adult participants and is not appropriate for younger siblings or friends.
Parents or guests are charged a one-time $120 program fee per person, which covers the cost of all meals, materials, and activities (lodging is not included), and administrative costs for both Parent Orientation and Welcome Weekend.
The program schedule for Summer Orientation is much different than Welcome Weekend. While there is opportunity to gain some information during Welcome Weekend, Parent Orientation is the most comprehensive opportunity to learn about the student experience at SCU. For parents and guests who attend only Welcome Weekend, the cost of the program is $20 per person.
Changes or Cancellations
We are able to add parents or guests to reservations at any time including at check-in. However, if you need to cancel a parent/guest reservation, you must cancel your reservation by July 1, 2014 or you will be charged the full parent/guest fee. To add or remove a parent or guest from your reservation, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with the full name of the individual to be added or removed.
Parent/Guest Housing Accommodations
On-campus housing is required for students attending orientation. To assist parents with their accommodations, here is a map showing hotels located close to campus. We recommend you contact a hotel at least four weeks in advance.
