3/10: Continuing University Operations

The following message was emailed to faculty and staff on March 10, 2020.

Dear Santa Clara University community,

As Father O'Brien stated in his email yesterday, the following provides information concerning alternative work arrangements during the period from Monday, March 16 until Monday, April 13. In addition, this email addresses, the operations of Kids On Campus, and the status of student employees.

While the campus remains open and campus operations will continue with some limitations in services, many staff will temporarily be allowed to work remotely. Those staff members whose job functions are conducive to temporarily working remotely, as determined and approved by the respective unit's Assistant/Associate Vice President (AVP) or Dean, will be allowed to work from home or from an appropriate alternate location.

These telecommuting assignments will be aided by guidelines supplied by the Department of Human Resources (HR), will be reviewed on a weekly basis, and will be subject to the terms of a temporary telecommuting agreement that is being developed by HR and will be provided to the unit managers shortly. Those staff who will be working remotely may be required to come to campus from time to time during this period. During the next three days, the respective unit Deans or AVPs will advise those employees who will be permitted temporarily to work remotely.

While Kids On Campus (KOC) continues to operate as scheduled, the hours of KOC's operation may be reduced or suspended as circumstances dictate. For that reason, we strongly urge faculty and staff with children at KOC to plan now for a possible reduction or suspension of KOC hours. If a change in hours occurs, we will give as much notice as possible, consistent with and depending upon the reasons and circumstances necessitating the change.

At this time student employment will continue as currently scheduled, subject to possible limitations. We will review student employment on a unit by unit basis and provide regular updates to the unit managers. We do not anticipate that students will be permitted to work remotely at this time.

Thank you all for your flexibility amidst this disruption in our University operations. We are developing a more detailed FAQ which will be posted shortly on our website (scu.edu/covid-19) to assist with your additional questions. We appreciate all you do for Santa Clara and our students.

Sincerely,

John Ottoboni
Chief Operating Officer
