Care for All in Our Community at a Time of Change in America
Dear SCU Community:
We stand at a significant moment of change in our country. While we as individuals may differ on specific issues, many in our community are experiencing anxiety and concern for the rights, safety, and welfare of themselves and their families or their fellow Broncos. I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge this and share some thoughts and perspectives that I hope will be helpful as together we face change ahead.
The Jesuit values upon which Santa Clara was founded are infused with the culture of care that defines our community—upholding the dignity of all; assuming good intentions by others; seeing God in all things; caring for the whole person, each in one’s own uniqueness (cura personalis); and demonstrating faith that does justice. This means each of us is called to develop, create, and sustain a culture of care for all members of the Santa Clara family.
We continue to connect with many members of our community regarding specific topics of concern and need, and have initiated various efforts to connect individuals and families to information, resources, and support, so they know what organizations on and off campus are available to assist them when circumstances may require it.
We are engaging actively with organizations such as the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities, the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities, and the American Council on Education, to collectively advocate for our Jesuit university values and interests. We also are reaching out to our elected officials, to make sure they are aware of Santa Clara’s interests and concerns and can represent the needs of our university effectively.
Looking ahead, we will continue to monitor developments and engage with the community, including through units such as Inclusive Excellence, Global Engagement, LEAD Scholars, Human Resources, Mission and Ministry, and other campus groups. Each is here to understand our community’s needs and to promote and serve the well-being of all.
I want to assure you that our care, our sense of family, and the hope and optimism that are essential to our incredible Bronco family are as important now as ever. Whatever changes or challenges lie ahead will not change the love and care we provide for all in the Bronco family.
Sincerely,

Julie Sullivan
President
