Top Priorities

We are committed to preserving our unique traditions and stewarding the University with an innovative spirit.

Our mission as a Jesuit University today is more relevant than ever before as we aim to care for students in mind, body, and spirit, support our faculty in their research and scholarship and serve the common good by promoting a more just, gentle, and sustainable world.

At our core, we are a Catholic and Jesuit institution committed to academic excellence, social justice, diversity in community, and a lively dialog between faith and reason.

Top Priorities for the Year Ahead

Together, we will work to serve the community and world beyond this beautiful campus. We have a lot to do but we’ll do it together, one day at a time.

ACCESS AND AFFORDABILITY

We want to make a Santa Clara education more affordable for qualified students who want to come here, no matter their socioeconomic background or family circumstances. We also want to support our talented and dedicated faculty and staff to live, work, and thrive in this exceptionally  expensive region of the country.

ADVANCING RACIAL JUSTICE

We are committed to continuing our collective work in becoming an antiracist campus focused on diversity, equity and inclusion. We understand this starts with educating ourselves first and using our influence to dismantle the institutional and systemic racism present in our university, community, and country at large.

BUILDING A DEEPER CULTURE OF TRUST, RESPECT, AND SHARED MISSION

Working with Lisa Kloppenberg, our interim provost, I will seek to build an administration marked by transparency, accountability, and clarity of decision-making. A community as large and diverse and vibrant as ours will have differences, but I hope to keep us all focused on our shared commitment to the mission that binds us.

INNOVATING WITH A MISSION CAMPAIGN

Through the generosity of our benefactors, we already have transformed our campus with new academic, residential, and athletic facilities. In the coming years, we will focus more and more on fundraising for financial aid and faculty development through our $1 billion campaign. The need to stand at the forefront of these important efforts will take me away from campus at times, but at all times this campus will be in my heart and prayers.

OUTREACH TO SILICON VALLEY

We have much to offer enterprises in the Valley, and much to contribute to our neighbors in San Jose and the greater Bay Area and much to learn from them. In the coming year, we will intensify and coordinate our outreach to Silicon Valley and our surrounding community. From the technology giants who change our world and employ our graduates, to our neighboring communities, each deepens, enriches, and expands our vital role in Silicon Valley.
