Message from the Presidential Search Committee

Dear Members of the Santa Clara University Community,

The Presidential Search Committee met for the first time on September 19th. During our discussion, we began to map out some of the overarching institutional priorities that will guide the search for our next President. These areas will help surface candidates who possess the skills, experience, and temperament required to advance the institution and navigate the changing trends in higher education.

Your feedback is critical to the search process, and to that end the committee would like your input on the following questions:

  • What are the unique characteristics of SCU – the strengths and opportunities – that might make it appealing to candidates?
  • What are the most important issues facing our campus community, now and in the future?
  • What three attributes must our new University President embody?
  • Are there qualified Jesuits whom you believe should be considered by the search committee?

To gather your input, we invite you to complete the online survey by October 8th. We also welcome your input by email at presidentialsearch@scu.edu. We will keep you informed as the search progresses with regular communications. We also invite you to visit the website at scu.edu/presidential-search where we will post updates.

Our Presidential Search Committee is committed to continued transparency and communication so our community can stay up to date on this most important effort. As we begin the search process in earnest, I encourage you to take a moment to learn more about those who are dedicating their time and expertise to identify our next University President. Their detailed bios are available here. Having looked at past presidential searches at other universities, we are proud of the size and inclusiveness of this committee, which includes respected faculty, staff, alumni, and trustees who are established leaders in their respective fields, including the presidents of two major Jesuit universities.

As you take a moment to get to know the members of this committee, we hope that you – as we did – will come to appreciate the unique insights each will bring to this work and help ensure a successful conclusion.

Sincerely,

John M. Sobrato, ‘83
