Chris has a Ph.D. in Communication Research from Stanford University. She has served as the Director of Assessment at SCU since 2012, supporting the Core Curriculum, academic programs,  and other units on campus to design, implement, and analyze projects that assess student learning and identify areas for program change or improvement. Chris also serves as Co-Director of the Faculty Collaborative for Teaching Innovation, and in that capacity she collaborates with others on programs and workshops on effective and equitable assignment design, active teaching strategies, ePortfolio project design and implementation, formative and summative methods for assessing student learning. She is a founding member of the SWIRL initiative (Success in Writing, Information, and Research Literacy) that has worked with faculty across the university on assignment design and teaching strategies to improve student writing, critical thinking, and information literacy. Research from this project has been presented at IWAC (2018, 2020) and at the WASC Academic Resource Conference (2020). Chris also continues to publish in her discipline, most recently with SCU co-authors on the impact of a simulation game dealing with poverty: Hernández-Ramos, P., Bachen, C.
