Santa Clara’s Core Curriculum provides the common learning that all students need to become people of competence, conscience, and compassion.
SCU is committed to assuring that students successfully acquire the knowledge, habits of mind and heart, and ways of engaging with the world that prepares them for professional excellence, responsible citizenship, and service to society.
And that’s where assessment comes in.
The Office of Assessment collaborates with the Faculty Core Committees, faculty teaching in each Core areas, and the faculty who volunteer to review students’ course work to assess student learning in the Core. We work together to identify the qualities of student work that shows us we’re achieving our objectives, reviewing the student work using a rubric. Our assessment helps us understand where students are excelling and we can do more to support their learning. We’re committed to improvement because that moves us toward our overarching goal of imparting a transformational Jesuit education.
