Chris Kitts received an additional $90,000 from Wyle Laboratories, Inc

Chris Kitts with the Mechanical Engineering Department has received an additional award in the amount of $90,000 from Wyle Laboratories, Inc. Total funds to date that have been awarded are $1,014,200. These additional funds will support his ongoing project "NASA Solar Sail".

Personnel from the Santa Clara University (SCU) Robotic Systems Laboratory (RSL) will provide satellite operations expertise to support the  Advanced Composite Solar Sail System (ACS3) mission, to include development of the ACS3 satellite tracking and communications station, and mission control center. It also includes integrated satellite testing, the development of on-orbit operational procedures, and mission control services once the satellite is launched. This work includes the development of advanced command and control techniques as well as educating/training dozens of SCU students to be on the NASA satellite operations crew. RSL has been a mission partner for numerous small satellite missions conducted by the NASA Ames Research Center for nearly two decades.
