Prashanth Asuri received a $70,000 award from Cepheid Inc. and a $22,742 award from NIIMBL

Prashanth Asuri with the Bioengineering Department has received a $70,000 award from Cepheid Incorporated to support his project "Design and Development of Tools and Platforms for Advancing Molecular diagnostics Testing and Development". He also received a $22,742 award from NIIMBL to support his project "VR/Digital Twin Project".

Prashanth Asuri with the Bioengineering Department has received a $70,000 award from Cepheid Incorporated. Funds will be used to support his project "Design and Development of Tools and Platforms for Advancing Molecular diagnostics Testing and Development". The SCU BioInnovation and Design Lab will develop virtual reality and data-driven modeling approaches in support of Cepheid's efforts to devise and deploy diagnostic solutions that improve global patient outcomes globally, as well as establish joint training programs that prepares SCU students with qualifications and aptitudes to achieve career success in the biomedical industry.

He also received a $22,742 award from The National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL) to support his project "VR/Digital Twin Project". NIIMBL collaborator KGI is working with several pharmaceutical equipment manufacturers to develop virtual reality (VR) training modules on the use of biomanufacturing equipment. The VR system has the capability to integrate process data to make the examples more realistic and dynamic. We propose: (1) supporting integration of data analysis cases (possibly regression equations) based on SCU's existing work through it's current NIIMBL grant, (2) supporting a student test cohort of 30 SCU students to help test knowledge acquisition and the impact of VR exposure to biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes.
