Ying Liu with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering has received a $196,211 award from the National Science Foundation. These funds will support her project "ERI: Generative Adversarial networks for Video Coding".

In this project, the PI proposes to investigate video coding techniques based on generative adversarial networks (GAN). The PI will propose GAN-based video coding systems to achieve high perceptual quality of the decoded frames, especially at low bit rates, and will propose low-complexity GAN-based video coding networks via simplified convolution operations.
