Writers Retreats

Couldn't participate in the summer writing retreats? As it turns out, we got so much writing done that we decided to keep this good thing going for the fall.

Fall Faculty Writing Retreats

Thurs Sep 20 9:00am - 4:00pm

Fri Sep 21, 9:00am - 4:00pm

Thurs Nov 1, 9:00am - 4:00pm

Fri Nov 2, 9:00am - 4:00pm

Thurs Nov 29, 9:00am - 4:00pm

Fri Nov 30, 9:00am - 4:00pm

Program: Faculty writers writing

Schedule: Writing. We’ll have brief goal-setting get-togethers, and we’ll invite you to check in at intervals. Other than that the schedule consists of you working on your writing project. We've designed the retreat to help you ignore email/teaching/department/university tasks in order to do the one thing only you can do: your scholarly or creative work.

Bring: Your writing project, a goal, hard-copy resources, laptop. Leave everything else for a few days; it will all be waiting for you after the retreat.

Where: The Faculty Development Lab, LC 142. We’ll share a common room for meals and check-ins and do our writing there or in a set of break-out rooms. There are also (busy) outdoor patio spaces and Market Square in Benson, or the nearby Learning Commons for those who prefer.

When: 9:00am-4:00pm. Save those dates! Come to one or all.

Why: To focus and energize your writing project/s, and because working alongside colleagues offers accountability and joy. Because your routine might not be serving you well, and you need to mix it up a little. Because peer pressure is powerful.

We’ll ask you to let your people (on and off campus) know that you are on retreat and unavailable on these Fridays.

Cost: None. Lunch is provided. Additionally, the community of participants shares the responsibility for a potluck breakfast and happy hour snacks.

Who: All Santa Clara University faculty are invited.

Requirements: a project, a goal, a commitment to arrive on time and adhere to writing retreat community schedule and guidelines.

RSVP (including a brief description of writing project/goals).
