Class Descriptions & Instructor Biographies

Barre: This class combines attributes of Pilates, dance, and functional fitness training. In this full-body workout, we integrate small isolated movements to fatigue the muscles, large range of motion to elevate the heart rate, and sequencing that incorporates the upper and lower body to make every minute count. With exercises in both the center and at the barre, this class develops strength, endurance and flexibility. This results in a total body workout that leaves you mentally strong and feeling accomplished.

Barre is taught by: Kimber W.

Kimber is a sophomore at SCU from Chicago, IL. She has been dancing her entire life, specifically focused in ballet. She is currently a member of the SCU dance team and Santa Clara Dance Coalition to stay on task with fitness, and she completed her barre certification through Barre Intensity Training in 2021. Kimber has always admired the discipline and empowerment that can be learned through the practice of dance, pilates and overall healthy living.

Candlelight Yoga: Join us for a restorative yoga class outside in the Mission Gardens! This class will focus on relaxation and releasing tension in the body. We will incorporate gentle movement with static, restorative postures to help your body find surrender. This class will be lit by battery operated candles and the setting sun to create a relaxing space for you to find ease. As the weather changes the time & location may change. In addition, please wear warm clothing and bring blankets to keep you warm and to use as props for yoga poses. Towels work great for outdoor yoga mats!

Candlelight Yoga is taught by: Ashley S.

Ashley is a senior at SCU! She has spent the last 9 months living in Sun Valley, ID exploring all that the amazing mountains of Southern Idaho have to offer! She is studying Biology and Gerontology and hopes to be a Chinese Medicine practitioner and Acupuncturist to care for hospice and palliative care patients. Her passion for yoga began when she tore my ACL in a horseback riding accident in high school. Yoga was instrumental in her recovery, and sparked an interest in teaching. She completed my 200 hour teacher training in the summer of 2018 and became certified to teach. She hopes that her classes offer you a place to be in community with others and care for yourself.

Cycling: Anyone of all fitness levels are welcome in this class! In each class we will tackle steady climbs, fast sprints, and recovery flats while seated or standing on the bike, set with fun, new playlists each week. This workout is high-energy and will challenge your endurance. This class is 45 minutes and includes a warm-up and cool-down stretch.

Cycling is taught by: Maggie M.

Maggie is a sophomore at SCU from Atlanta, Georgia. She has always had a passion for fitness and helping others achieve their fitness goals. Both her parents are fitness instructors, which lead her to want to follow in their footsteps. She began spinning 3 years ago and decided to get her spinning certification through Schwinn. She is so excited to start spinning at SCU!

Zumba: Kelly works for the School of Engineering full time and is also a senior in Anthropology at SCU. She has been a fitness instructor for 12 years and incorporates a variety of musical influences and strength training into her Zumba classes. Kelly has trained Zumba instructors throughout the San Jose area and loves to give her students the freedom to feel sexy while getting a great workout. Kelly is certified in group fitness, yoga, kickboxing and circuit training, but her favorite workout, handsdown, is Zumba. She promises to make it your favorite too!

Zumba is taught by: Kelly G.

This class is a total workout, combining all elements of fitness—cardio, muscle conditioning, balance, and flexibility. In this class, you will be motivated by Latin and international music with dance moves. You will alternate between fast and slow rhythms to get your full-body workout.
