Leaves of Absence
The University offers leaves of absence to enable employees to attend to personal and professional obligations and for periods of disability. Information about the various types of leave is available from Human Resources; the Faculty Handbook treats the topic as well (§3.7.3). In addition, the Provost's Office has discretion to grant leaves of absence. Plan to discuss any leaves with the HR staff and with the department chair.
Maternity and paternity leaves are available within the first year after the child's birth; HR provides a timeline to help you plan the use of short-term disability and paid family leave around the birth and in the first year of your child's life.
