Junior Faculty Development Leave
The University grants a quarter off of teaching and for research after a successful mid-probationary review for probationary tenure-stream faculty. These leaves are covered in the Faculty Handbook §3.7.1-2. and on the Provost's website on a page dedicated to Faculty Leaves.
Tenured faculty and Senior Lecturers are entitled to one quarter of sabbatical research leave for every nine quarters of full-time teaching. Some people take the third quarter at 67% salary in order to take a full year's sabbatical after six years, rather than waiting nine years. You must apply for a sabbatical leave with a proposal outlining your research project, usually by October 1 for the following academic year. For more information, see the Faculty Handbook §3.7.1-2. and on the Provost's website on a page dedicated to Faculty Leaves.
