Playbooks Now Feature STARS Objectives!

We recently added a section in our Sustainability Playbooks that matches each action with a STARS objective category, so viewers can identify how their choices are contributing to these goals.

Santa Clara University has relied on the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System (STARS) for years to track its achievements relating to sustainability efforts across campus. Now that these efforts have been added as a visible component of our Sustainability Playbooks, community members are able to identify how their actions contribute to these important goals.

Developed by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), STARS provides a transparent framework for universities to measure their sustainability performance, outlining objectives across four main categories, Academics, Engagement, Operations, and Planning & Administration. (Read SCU’s full report on the STARS website.)

Each Playbook action now identifies which STARS category and subcategory it aligns with, highlighting how individual choices connect to university-wide performance towards sustainability efforts.

The Playbooks are a dynamic and interactive tool, and this is just one example of the exciting updates going on. Each action is also matched with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and new actions are frequently added from suggestions by the SCU community. We recently created an exclusive Playbook for first-year students and one for alumni, family, and friends, and have more additions to look forward to coming soon! To find your Playbook, suggest an action, or apply for a virtual Badge, visit our Strategic Plan Playbook site.
