What is your project about? I plan to conduct a detailed analysis of the potential for floating solar energy grids in Santa Clara County and greater California. By leveraging GIS and Landsat mapping I will identify areas most suitable for floating solar deployments, such as reservoirs or irrigation canals. I will highlight the most feasible locations based on geography, deployment cost, proximity to electric networks and demand, etc.
How will this fellowship support you in your future scholarship/career goals? I look forward to pursuing a career involving solar and renewable energy microgrids after graduation! I hope to improve my skills in GIS, quantitative data analysis, and professional writing as a Sustainability Undergraduate Research Fellow. My research will also enable me to narrow my interests in the sustainability sector and bolster my future application for a Master's Degree in Environmental Science.
Other passions, hobbies, fun facts, or anything else you want to share: My passion for climate justice is rooted in my love for the outdoors and natural ecosystems. In my free time, I enjoy mountain biking, surfing, skiing, and film photography!
