Student Club Certification

This new certification has required criteria in the categories of Collaboration, Purchasing, & Programming and certifies clubs in one of 3 tiers (from novice to advanced level). The certification is good for only 1 academic year and clubs can re-apply for a new certification within the same year.

Participating clubs are eligible for a Sustainability Champion award and receive VIP tickets to the Sustainability Celebration at The Forge Garden in June of each year. If you have any questions, please email sustainability@scu.edu. 

Light Green: 8 points
At least 3 points in Collaboration, 3 points in Purchasing, 2 points in Programming

Dark Green: 12 points
At least 4 points in Collaboration, 4 points in Purchasing, 4 points in Programming

Beyond Green: 18 points
At least 6 points in Collaboration, 6 points in Purchasing, 6 points in Programming

(2 points) Have at 1 leadership team member serve as a Sustainability Guide 
 
(2 points) Join the Student Sustainability Advisory Board that meets once-a-quarter
 
(1 point per event and attendee) Have 1 leadership team member attend at least 1 of Sustainability Series event a quarter to learn more about sustainability 
 
(1 point per 5 members) Have at least 5 active members contribute service and collaboration of their choosing to a program or event

Must send photo/receipt/file documentation via email to sustainability@scu.edu. For those that are deemed 3 points or higher, tagging a photo on social media with the hashtag #sustainableSCU (and if applicable, #TheForgeGarden) and @sustainableSCU will also be accepted.

 

(1 point) Purchase food, apparel, or other product that is fair trade-certified, or equivalent
 
(1 point) Purchase of compostable or recyclable goods for an event or meeting
 
(2 points) Advertise through digital means and have minimal to no paper ads
 
(3 points) Shop at The Forge Garden’s Friday Farm Stand or local farmers’ market
 
(3 points) Purchase reusable merchandise (e.g. Shirts without a specific year or event name or event dishware)
 
(4 points) For each meeting and event, ask attendees to "bring-your-own-_____"

(1 point) Partner with sustainability-related clubs on an event or cause
 
(1 point) Invite the club’s Sustainability Guide, any Sustainability Liaison, Center for Sustainability staff, or natural science faculty to present on a sustainability topic related to club’s focus (at least one meeting a quarter)
 
(2 points) Direct club meetings to relate club goals/mission to some aspect of sustainability (i.e. water, energy, waste, consumption)
 
(3 points) Consult with the Center for Sustainability to integrate environmental service work or climate education in a club-wide field trip or retreat
