New climate education programs
This year, there are new ways to be involved with the Center for Sustainability and to contribute to SCU's goals of net zero greenhouse gas emissions (climate neutrality) and zero waste.
With only 3 short years to 2020, the Center for Sustainability presents new and updated ways to contribute to SCU's goals of net zero greenhouse gas emissions (climate neutrality) and zero waste.
Our region has recently experienced extreme drought and local flooding within the span of a year, showing us that we are heavily impacting our planet. By taking action in your personal life and community, as well as showing up (and showing that you care), we can slow the impacts of climate change together. Here's how you can contribute this year:
Sustainability Series (NEW!)
Learn, share, and inspire others when attending this new event series that focuses on different sustainability topics throughout the year.
Sustainability Guides (NEW!)
Become a hotspot of campus sustainability info by attending 1 training and receiving monthly, exclusive email updates full of key events, important tidbits of news, and reminders.
(How is this different than Sustainability Liaisons? The Liaison Network consists of individuals who are peer educators and champions for sustainability where we all live, work, and play. Liaisons attend 1-hour monthly meetings, and work on an initiative that encourages a culture of sustainabiity among colleagues and peers.)
Gain recognition and a rating for your department's sustainability efforts in climate, waste, and culture.
Changes to our existing program offerings include a quarterly convergence for student club leaders to collaborate and organize opportunities and projects for sustainability (Friday, September 22nd, 4-5 pm, Varsi 206 Conference Room) and a quarterly potluck social for students living off campus and wanting to live more sustainably (November details to be announced). The Forge Garden has a fresh, fall line-up of events including a new natural building workshop, Food & Friends (cooking and eating event), plant sale and Harvest Party.
