How to Determine Which Apps may or may not work in macOS Big Sur

macOS 11.0 Big Sur will NOT run 32-bit apps.  You can check whether any of the apps you are currently using on your Mac are 32-bit.

How to use macOS to identify 32-bit apps:

Click on the Apple logo in the top-left corner of your Mac screen.

  1. Choose "About This Mac"

Drop down panel for About This Mac

  2. Click on "System Report..."

The information dialog box displayed after clicking on About This Mac

  3. Next click on Software > Applications

System Report Window showing 64-bit applications

  4. Verify the apps you regularly use are listed as 64-bit application in the last column on the right. You could sort by that column to make it easier to see at a glance.

  5. Check the 'Obtained from' in that column. If a 64-bit app is from an 'Identified Developer', 'Mac App Store' or 'Apple' then there should be no issues, but if it says 'Unknown' you may experience issues.
