Troubleshooting Tips

troubleshootingtips.jpg

Tip #1:  If you get a message to update a driver and the iPrint printer disappears, you should be able to just go back to the main iPrint page

http://print01.scu.edu/ipp

click on your printer to select and reinstall the printer.

Tip #2: You may find that when you install a printer that a feature like duplexing is not working as you expect.  After installing a new driver it may be necessary to edit the printer properties and let the system know that the duplexing feature is installed.

Windows 7 instructions

1.  Click on the start button

2.  Click on Devices and Printers

3.  Right click on the printer and select Printer Properties from the popup side menu

4.  Click on the Device Settings tap

5.  If Duplex Unit (for 2-Sided Printing): shows as Not Installed, just click on it and change to Installed.

6.  Click OK and then you should be able to select Duplex or 2 sided printing when using that printer.

Driver Note #1:  All the printers on the list

All of the printers have valid Windows 7-64bit drivers.  Most printers have Windows 10-64bit drivers but some printers are too old and substitute drivers and generic PCL drivers won't even work.  If you have a printer with no Windows 10 driver, it may be time to purchase a new printer.

Micro Focus iPrint Installation Instructions for Mac Computers

The SCU iPrint environment consists of three main parts; The iPrint Appliance (server), the iPrint client (software that runs on your computer), and the iPrint printers which are usually Dell and HP workgroup printers located throughout the SCU campus offices.

To install a printer, open a browser and go to http://print01.scu.edu/ipp

All the current versions of Mac OS X should be supported.

The first thing to do is to install the iPrint client.  This is the software that lets your computer talk to the iPrint server which manages and monitors the network printing.  Then you can install printers.

How to install the iPrint Client

Click on the Install iPrint Client button.

Main-IPP-Screen2.jpg

A popup will prompt you to save the iprint installer file.

How to install an iPrint Printer

The printers are listed in alphabetic order and show location and a description which includes the list of which OS’s are supported, ie.. Mac, Win7, or Win10.

ie..  iPrint Printer Name              Printer Location         Printer Model - Mac/Win7/Win10

Note:  If Mac is not included in the supported OS’s then there is not a currently tested and available driver for that printer.  As soon as one is available, the listing for that printer will be updated.

Click on the printer you want to install.   A Launch Application popup will appear.

MicroFocus-LaunchAppBox.jpg

Select Micro Focus iPrint Printer Installation Utility, then click OK.

If Mac is not listed as a supported OS or platform in the description field an error will be displayed when the printer is clicked on that indicates that no supporting driver is available.

DriverCantbeInstalled.jpg

That just means that there is no Mac driver for this printer in the iPrint system yet.  The printer listing will be updated when a driver is available and has been tested.

Click OK and select another printer to install.

If the iPrint printer is already installed, this notice will pop up.

Click OK and select another printer to install.

If you select an iPrint printer which has Mac driver support and has not been installed yet, the following dialog box will pop up.  If it is the correct printer and you want it be installed, just click on Install to begin the driver application installation process.

NotInstalledYet.jpg

If no additional support files, filters or drivers need to be installed, the installer will pop this window up when it has completed the install.

Click OK to complete.

If the printer installer needs to download an application and driver installation package, a window will pop up showing that it is downloading  a package, then it will say Extracting package, and then prompt you to install the package.

InstallPackage.jpg

Click on Install Driver Package to continue.

Once you click on Install Driver Package to begin the installation process, the installation process will vary a little depending on the make and model of the printer.  The following is an example of what you may see.

GuidePrompt.jpg

Once the installation process starts, iPrint may pop up a window stating that it will guide you through the process.  It does not do this for all driver packages.  Click OK to continue.

In this example, installing a Dell 2350dn the first screen that is shown is the license agreement.

Click Continue.

LicenseAgreeToTerms.jpg

Click Agree to continue.

The installer will then indicate how much space is required on the local disk for the install files.  You have the option to change the location of the printer files by clicking on Change Install Location if you want to.

InstallSpaceRequired.jpg

Click on Install to continue.  If prompted,  enter your Username and Password and click Install Software.

The installation will start and may just continue until it is complete.  If not, it may go something like this.  You may see a Filer window with the DMG file and printer Installer files.  If you see this then it is requiring you to manually start the install process.

InstallerPackage1.jpg

Click on the arrow to the left of the Installer files to expand out the view so you can see the installer you have to click on to begin the install process.

In this case you would click on the Installer.mpkg to begin the installation script.

InstallerPackage2.jpg (19.3 kB)

In this case you see that there are two versions, one for Mac OSX 10.3-10.6 and one for Mac OSX 10.7 and later.  You should use the one for the OSX version that you have installed.

The installer may then check the system to make sure that the driver package can be properly installed.  You may see something like this.

InstallerPackageCheck.jpg

Click Continue

InstallerPackageInstalled.jpg

You should then see a pop up like this to indicate that the software has installed successfully.

iPrint should then pop up another window showing that the installation process has completed.
