Connecting to Campus Wireless Network

Guest Wireless

Choose the SCU-Guest network from the list of available networks.

The SCU-Guest network will allow visitors to our campus to acquire WiFi access without needing to supply an access code, logon ID, or password.  This is an Internet-only, unsecured network with metered bandwidth per user.  SCU-Guest has been built to provide adequate bandwidth to allow guests to check their email or calendars, and for normal Internet browsing activities.

As always, we encourage our faculty, staff, and students to utilize our secured network, using SCU-Student or SCU-Employee.

Student, Faculty, and Staff Wireless

Instructions for accessing the WiFi network are contingent on whether this is your first time logging on or if you are changing from BroncoWiFi to one of the new networks. Please see instructions for both below.

First Time logging onto the Campus Wireless Network?

1. Choose SCU-Student or SCU-Employee (for faculty and staff) from the list of available networks.
2. SCU-Student or SCU-Employee are encrypted with WPA.  You will be asked to enter a WPA key.

For SCU-Student enter "gosantaclara" (without quotation marks)
For SCU-Employee enter "GoBroncos" (without quotation marks)

3. After entering the WPA key, you will need to launch your web browser and browse to an off-campus web site such as ibm.com.
4. A webpage will open and prompt you to type in your username and password (SCU Network ID). You are not fully connected to the network until you authenticate with your SCU Network ID and password.
5. Once logged in, you may be asked to download a Policy Key. This MUST be downloaded to access the wireless network.

Please note, access to the wireless network requires you to authenticate through a protective shell called SafeConnect. Part of the connection process includes a review of your computer to see if it has current anti-virus/anti-malware software running on it. The review will also check to see if your system is relatively current on OS patches and security updates. Systems not current in either of these are placed into a network quarantine, where you have the ability to correct this. For example, we provide Sophos Endpoint Security and Control. This is at no cost to current students, faculty & staff. This can be downloaded from the quarantine proctection area and installed, which will resolve that issue. Protection of the campus network and resources, and protection for your system are our primary concern.

Changing from BroncoWiFi to SCU-Student or SCU-Employee:

As part of the network upgrade project, changes have been made to the back-end hardware infrastructure to enhance wireless access.

To continue using the campus wireless network, you will need to update your wireless settings on each device you use on campus (laptop, phone, tablet) before March 1, 2016.  First, you need to remove, forget or disconnect from BroncoWiFi.  Next, add the new campus wireless network appropriate for your role at SCU. BroncoWiFi will be discontinued on March 1, 2016.
