The custodial staff performs both routine and periodic cleaning services. All services are provided by a combination of In-House custodial staff and ABLE Building Maintenance staff (ABLE is a contract custodial firm). Except in residence halls, most cleaning is done prior to 8:00 AM, Monday – Friday. Some buildings do receive additional custodial services throughout the day.

Custodial staff are not permitted to open/unlock doors for individuals. If you need assistance getting into rooms during non-operating hours please call Campus Safety at (408) 554-4441.
Daily Routine Services
- Vacuuming
- Sweeping & mopping
- Emptying of waste, recycling & compost containers
- Restroom cleaning and disinfecting
- Replenishing restroom & breakroom supplies
As time allows, we also perform spot cleaning on carpets.
Weekly Routine Services
Weekly services pertain to private and cubicle offices
- Emptying blue recycle bins*
- Dust furniture surfaces
- Vacuuming or mopping
*Staff/Faculty members are responsible for emptying and cleaning the small black waste bin attached to the blue recycle bin, as well as any personal trash bin kept in or around the office place.
Annual Services
- Carpet cleaning
- Floor polishing, scrubbing and refinishing
- Window interior & exterior cleaning*

Routine Custodial Services
Routine services have been adjusted to focus primarily on high touch protocol (HTP) cleaning and sanitizing during the pandemic.
Common areas are cleaned daily and detailed once a week. These areas include: classrooms, laboratories, conference rooms, lobbies, entrances, restrooms, reception desk, service desk, stairwells, balconies, elevators, corridors, copy rooms, mail rooms, laundry rooms, study rooms, kitchenettes and break rooms. We do not empty shredding machines and it is your staff's responsibility to clean up any mess doing so. We also do not clean appliances.

Santa Clara University has a contract with Able Building Services to provide additional custodial support to both Academic and Housing Buildings
Our contracted custodial members help serve the SCU community in the same manner as our In-House crew. They deliver outstanding service while being kind and professional to those they encounter during their work shift.

Submitting a Service Request
Service requests can be submitted online through the AiM system which allows for the creation of new Service Requests, as well as the ability to monitor and query for existing Requests. Faculty, Staff, and Students* are welcome to use this online tool. Email Facilities to get your AiM login information.
