Sobrato Campus for Discovery and Innovation

Project Description

The Sobrato Campus for Discovery and Innovation will create classrooms, labs, research, study and office space for the School of Engineering and the College of Arts and Science. This complex will bring together multiple departments to create a collaborative learning environment where students and faculty alike can benefit from the expertise of their peers. This 270,000 squarefoot building will be built on the site of the previous engineering and law buildings with a 4-story wing on the east side and 3-story wings on the north and south. The courtyard in the middle will open up towards Heafey Hall and Bergin Hall to create an interconnection between all of the STEM facilities.

Campus Impacts

This project will create significant impacts to foot and vehicle traffic in the center of campus. Some pedestrian pathways in the area have been changed, and all are clearly marked. Trucks will be staging on the North side of Sherman Street as they wait to enter the construction site, and will enter and exit the construction site onto Sherman Street and Palm Drive. There will also be flaggers in the area directing traffic. Please be aware of your surroundings in this area, especially for vehicles.

Construction Impacts

Construction trucks may be staging as they wait to enter and exit the site on Sherman Street. Campus visitors will be directed to park in the first floor of the main parking structure by Parking & Transportation staff at the main entrance until project completion. There will also be some delays for those who use the main parking garage, due to construction truck traffic.

SCDI 3D Model Video

The entire Sobrato Campus for Discovery and Innovation building model is shown in a short video that you can watch here. The model shown is the actual model used to construct the SDCI building, and has allowed for an expedited construction process.
