OS Patches on Thursday, 1/23/14
We have OS patches scheduled for cms and the www servers this Thursday morning, starting at 9:30 am. Here's the schedule:
9:30 - Authoring and Replication are suspended on cms. Patches are applied on cms, and the server is rebooted. This process should take less than 10 minutes. Authoring will be re-enabled after that (9:40 or so).
9:45 - 10:30 - OS patches are applied on each of the three www servers. Replication will be offline while this is going on, but external access to the www servers will not be interrupted.
10:30 - (or sooner, if the patches on www are complete) - Replication will be back on its regular schedule.Read More »

Once cms is updated, authoring will be enabled but replication will be off until all three of the www servers are updated. This could take an hour or more to complete.Read More »

Sitemap not updating
In some cases you won't see updates applied to a sitemap reflected right away in your site navigation. The sitemap's XML file will only be refreshed when you change the sitemap structure, so if you're updating a link label or url, deleting a link, or otherwise not modifying the site outline the XML file won't be updated. The workaround for that is to indent/outdent any link to refresh the file. Following that change, you'll want to clear the subsite cache on cms, and - following the next replication - clear the www subsite cache using the ClearCache utility.Read More »

Recommendation for naming pages or files
When creating a page or uploading a file in Commonspot, you're asked to fill the "Name" field. This field is what browsers will see in the page or file URL, not the title of the page. It is recommended to use all lower-case, standard alpha-numeric (a-z, 0-9) characters for the "Name" field, without blank spaces. The dash and underscore characters can be used, but avoid other punctuation such as apostrophe, period, or quote marks, or characters from other language sets.Read More »
Copy/Paste in Commonspot Text Editor
The copy/paste options in the Commonspot text editor's toolbar depend on some initial setup in your web browser.
In Chrome, you'll be prompted to download and install this extension:
Firefox offers and Addon called "AllowClipboard Helper". With this extension installed, you can add the cms server as a system allowed to access the clipboard.
In Safari, use right-click to access copy/paste actions.Read More »
