Creating bookmarks

Bookmarks allow links to specific elements or parts of the page. As an example, click this link to bring "part one" to the top of the page. Note, the bookmarked item may not come all the way to the top, if there is there is no more room to scroll down.

This guide assumes that you are familiar with linking in commonspot. A linking guide is available if needed.

Part one: Create the bookmark

Option 1: Bookmark in Rich Text Editor
  1. Open the Rich text editor.
  2. Move the cursor to the location for the bookmark to be placed. For the above example, the cursor was placed in front of "Part One"
  3. Push the bookmark button, bookmark button.
  4. Enter a name for the bookmark. This should be lower case, with no spaces. Make a note of this name, it will be used in part two.

Hint: If you forget the name, or want to check to see if a tag exists already, switch to HTML view at the bottom of the Rich Text Editor window, and look for a tag that looks like this:

<a name="partone"></a>
Option 2: Bookmark an element
  1. Change in to author mode
  2. Select the properties button,Element Properties Button, and choose "Element Name..."
  3. Enter a name for the bookmark. This should be lower case, with no spaces. Make a note of this name, it will be used in part two.

Bookmark link example

  1. If the bookmark is found on a different page, give the url including subfolders. As an example, linking to this page from another site, we could choose "External page..." and enter "/webpublishing/cms/steps/bookmarking.cfm#partone"
