What is it? 

Marijuana is the most frequently used illicit drug in the world today. It is a combination of shredded leaves, flower buds and stems derived from the hemp plant, cannabis sativa. Cannabis sativa contains many chemicals, the main ingredient commonly referred to as THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) is believed to be responsible for the psychoactive effects of cannabis. 

Is it addictive? 

Marijuana is addicting and has many negative effects especially for young people. Daily or weekly use strongly predicts future dependence. Also withdrawal symptoms (any physical and/or psychological symptoms that appear when deprived of a drug) can appear after only two weeks of daily use. 

What are the effects of Marijuana? 

Marijuana intoxication can result in a host of physical and psychological side effects. Some individuals may experience difficulty with coordination, distorted perceptions (including hallucination), panic attacks, memory retention problems, difficulty with problem solving, respiratory cancers, lower academic achievement and psychosis.
