Dear Colleagues —
The Princeton Review rankings have been released. For the fourth time since 2021, Santa Clara University ranks among the Top 20 Best Career Placement (Private Schools), and is in the Top 5 among private schools in California.
Santa Clara University rose six spots this year to #13.

The rankings are based on both student ratings of career services at their school and on Payscale's salary information for alumni.
Cheers and congratulations to all of us at Santa Clara University, but especially to the dynamic, dedicated and wonderfully diverse staff of the Career Center who come to work each day to help deliver on the promise of higher education: a good job, social capital, and economic mobility in pursuit of a more humane, just and sustainable world for all.

SCU Career Center Receives $17,500 Gift from Enterprise Mobility Foundation
Santa Clara University Career Center has been gifted a $17,500 grant from the Enterprise Mobility Foundation™ to provide increased support for Diversity Works Expo & Awards and other career services initiatives. This gift is the largest-ever corporate grant to the Career Center in its 70-plus-year history.
Enterprise Mobility, a long-time supporter of the Career Center, began co-sponsoring Diversity Works Expo & Awards in 2023. This sponsorship allowed the Career Center to dramatically increase the number and dollar amount of scholarship awards. Today, the Career Center distributes $10,000 in awards to five (5) individual students and five (5) registered student organizations.
Enterprise’s gift will help the Career Center grow and scale Diversity Works into a flagship DEI event not only at Santa Clara University but also within the Silicon Valley region.
Thank you to Melissa Thiriez, Director of Employer Relations & Partnerships, for your excellent stewardship of this important employer partner.

Article on 'Recent Grad Job Search Program' Published Online by American Association for Employer Relations+
In June, the American Association for Employer Relations+ published, "Beyond the Resume: A Holistic Approach to Job Hunting for New Graduates," an article written by Myriam Bartz, Assistant Director of Career Development.
Myriam Bartz, Assistant Director, Career Development
In the article, Myriam highlights her work leading the Career Center's Recent Grad Job Search Strategy Program, which is marketed to students each quarter who either do not respond to the First Destination Survey or respond that they are “Still Looking” for employment.

The article is behind a membership paywall.
"This five-week program, offered quarterly via Zoom, adopts a holistic approach to empower students," Myriam writes. "It focuses on cultivating positive emotions, leveraging character strengths, setting achievable goals, building a supportive community, and developing new habits to maintain accountability throughout the job search process."
Myriam is offering two cohorts this summer. They begin July 15th. If you know a recent grad who would benefit from joining this program, please send them the interest form application.

Vania Tong Represents Career Center at JASPA in New Orleans
Vania Tong, Associate Director of Career Development, represented the Career Center as part of the Santa Clara delegation to JASPA (Jesuit Association of Student Personnel Administrators) at Loyola University New Orleans, where she also co-presented on the Career Clarity Retreat.
Please read Vania's thoughtful and inspired reflection below!

As a bit of a global nomad, I'm almost always drawn to opportunities that take me to new places - new sights, new sounds, new smells, new cultures, and histories I have yet to learn. So when Jeanne [Rosenberger]’s call went out to the campus community to join the JASPA Five-Year Institute at Loyola University New Orleans, I was all in. It was an honor to be part of a nearly 30-person SCU delegation, and a privilege to present (shoutout to my co-presenter, Bich!) the meaningful work our core retreat team (Kudos to Bich, Myriam, and Victor!) has been leading through the Career Clarity Retreat.
This year’s Institute theme Justice, Jesuit, and Joy kept bringing me back to the three global realities that informed our retreat’s design: economic uncertainty, fraying social connection, and significant rise in young people experiencing anxiety and depression. While the Institute wasn’t career-services-centric, I left with a deeper conviction that these “J’s” aren’t just aspirational, but essential to the work of the Career Center in a Jesuit institution.
Career sits at the intersection of discernment, identity and dignity, and opportunity, positioning us as a natural partner for mission-aligned collaborations across campus, ones that may be uncommon at non-Jesuit institutions. I returned not only proud of what we have already built, but energized by what is still possible when we approach career development as both a space for transformation and a conduit for and collaborator in cura personalis.
And the cherry on top? New Orleans! A city shaped by resilience, culture, and spirit, offered the perfect backdrop to wrestle with these themes and imagine bold new possibilities.

Congratulations and Farewell to Andrew Gupton
It is with mixed emotions that I share that Andrew Gupton, Assistant Director of Employer Relations (STEM), is departing Santa Clara University to relocate to Colorado. His last day was Thursday, July 3.
Andrew first joined the Career Center in June 2022 and has made significant contributions in his 3 years here, not least of which is the great sense of humor he brought to work each day! Andrew leaves the Career Center and the Employer Relations team well positioned for continued impact. He wished to share this note:
Relocating back to Colorado where my wife and I are from is a great opportunity for us to raise our son Max around family, and I have also accepted a position in career services at the University of Colorado in Boulder. While excited about this new opportunity, I will greatly miss my friends and teammates here at SCU's Career Center.
The Career Center will now move forward in hiring for Andrew's successor. The position is posted on Workday; please feel free to share with your network.
