Dear Graduate Engineering Student,
We hope that your fall quarter is going well! This message contains important information for your Winter 2027 registration, which begins next week: November 9-13, 2026. Please review all information below carefully.
If you have any questions or do not plan to attend the Winter 2027 quarter, please gradengineer@scu.edu as soon as possible.
Registration ResponsibilitiesOnce you register for classes, you are responsible for dropping any courses via Workday if you decide not to attend. The last day to drop with a 100% refund (minus fees) is January 8, 2027 by 5:00 p.m.
Please Note: You cannot drop your last class on your own. Please contact gradengineer@scu.edu for assistance. We can also guide you through the process to request a Leave of Absence (LOA) or complete a withdrawal.
Registration AppointmentYou can view your registration appointment on Workday by either of the following:
- Workday Main Page: Academics > Planning and Registration > Registration Appointment
- Student Profile: Academics > Registration Appointments
It is very important to register during your assigned time to ensure your classes are not cancelled and to avoid pre-pay holds or late registration fees. All students may register for up to 10 units in Workday.
Please refer to the Student Workday Training Guides for assistance.
Registration HoldsIf you have a hold on your account, it must be resolved before you can register. To check your holds:
- Log into your Workday student profile.
- Click on Action Items and Holds, then select Active Holds.
Common holds include:
- Onboarding holds - All students must complete onboarding in their first quarter.
- Bursar holds (outstanding tuition balances) - Please email onestop@scu.edu or call 408-551-1000
Click into the hold for instructions and contact the appropriate department for resolution.
Course Selection and SchedulingTo find courses in Workday:
- Go to Academics > Planning and Registration > Find Courses, or
- Search for "Find Course Sections" in the Workday search bar.
Review course prerequisites and ensure you meet them before enrolling. Do not enroll in a course as a placeholder. If not dropped before the deadline, you will be responsible for the tuition.
Check Workday frequently for schedule updates and new course offerings.
WaitlistsIf a class is full, you may add yourself to the waitlist—if available. Note: Not all classes offer a waitlist option. Check Workday frequently. As students are enrolled from the waitlist, additional spots may open.
The waitlist process begins on Monday, November 16. When a spot becomes available, you’ll receive an email notification. You will have 24 hours to register for the course in Workday. If you miss the 24-hour window, you’ll remain on the waitlist and must wait for another notification before you can enroll.
Overload RequestsIf your cumulative GPA is 3.333 or higher, you may register for up to 12 units during overload week without departmental approval. You can begin to overload the week of November 16.
If your GPA is below 3.333, or do not yet have an SCU GPA for your graduate program, you must submit an Add Overload Form and receive approval from your department chair. This form is also required if you wish to enroll in more than 12 units for the term.
Registration FormsFor Independent Study, Directed Research, or Thesis units, submit a Registration Form signed by your professor and department chair. Forms may be submitted via email or dropped off in Heafey Room 240 or 241. The deadline is January 8, 2027 by 5:00 p.m.
No late adds will be accepted.
Tuition and Fees DeadlinesThe tuition payment deadline for Winter 2027 is December 21, 2027. A $100 late registration fee will be placed on your account on December 28, 2026 if you have no enrollment for the quarter.
F-1 Visa Student RemindersYou must be enrolled in at least 8 units by January 8, 2027 (end of Week 1).
You may take one online course not exceeding 3 units. For questions regarding online course restrictions, email iss@scu.edu.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. We look forward to seeing you in the winter quarter and continuing to support you as you work toward your degree.
Best Regards,
