Student Resource SpotlightFather Robert Glynn, S.J. Graduate Chaplain

I am Fr. Bob Glynn, S.J., the newest Jesuit on the Santa Clara campus. I am not new to the Bay Area, though, as I grew up in Alameda, “The Isle of Style,” in the East Bay. In my life as a Jesuit, I have taught at Brophy Prep, our high school in Phoenix, St. Malachy’s Primary School in Coleraine, Northern Ireland, Charles Lwanga Teacher Training College at Chikuni Mission, Zambia, Zambia Catholic University in Kalulushi, and Lechwe International School in Kitwe, Zambia. Teaching was augmented by my role as chaplain at the teacher training college and the university. Upon returning from Zambia, I spent seven happy years as Catholic chaplain to graduate students at Stanford University. My favorite mission, as chaplain to graduate students, continues here at Santa Clara in its various graduate schools.
What the chaplain is available to do:
- Listen to you without ever interrupting.
- Offer methods for discerning and decision-making which flow from the Jesuit/Ignatian tradition.
- Provide occasional or regular spiritual direction, which helps you to develop a mature and meaningful relationship with God.
- Offer relationship and other counseling which is completely confidential.
- Suggest different methods of prayer than those which you may be familiar.
- Accompany you through the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola (founder of the Jesuits).
- Help organize prayer groups, prayer meetings, day of recollection and retreats.
- Be game for all sorts of other fun and exciting endeavors in which you might be interested.
While I am a Jesuit Catholic priest, Santa Clara University has appointed me as chaplain to all graduate students, not just Catholics. Jesuits have a tradition of serving as spiritual guides for many non-Catholics. I would love to meet every graduate student I possibly can. My email address is rglynn@scu.edu. Blessings!

We’re hosting Dan Barahona, founder of AI Security University, who will show how he uses Claude Code and HyperFrames to turn slides, webinar replays, and recordings into course videos and Instagram reels — starting from an empty folder and a single prompt. You’ll then get to try it yourself with your own material (or a starter deck we’ll provide). |
