Student Resource Spotlight
Build Digital Solutions. Work Globally. Make a difference!! Are you ready to become the next version of yourself? At the Frugal Innovation Hub (FIH), graduate students can develop technologies for real clients, collaborate with international partners, and take solutions from an initial idea through deployment.
FIH connects students with community-based organizations to advance digital inclusion and address challenges in climate resilience, water and food security, education, health, and agriculture. Projects include mobile applications, IoT, web platforms, and a growing focus on AI technologies for social challenges in the Global South.

Real clients. Meaningful challenges. Work directly with partner organizations to understand their priorities and translate their needs into practical digital solutions. You will learn how culture, connectivity, cost, and organizational capacity influence technical decisions—and how to design technologies that work within those realities.
Go beyond a classroom prototype. More than 80% of FIH’s digital projects have been deployed. Our projects offer opportunities to participate in the entire product lifecycle: needs assessment, requirements gathering, design, development, testing, iteration, and deployment. The goal: build something people can adopt and use.
Along the way, strengthen your technical portfolio and develop professional skills in client communication, teamwork, creative problem-solving, and responsible technology design.
Ready to put your graduate education into practice? Contact us at FIH@scu.edu.
