Dear Friends,
I begin this week with tremendous gratitude for our community, which recently came together through a series of special and joyous occasions.
The annual Law Grand Reunion was an enormous success and evidence of the deep and enduring relational nature of Santa Clara Law. Our alumni gathered at Charney Hall from all over the country to reminisce, create new memories, and enjoy fellowship with each other. It was a privilege to hear about how our graduates are making a difference in the world.
This year, we held a special pinning ceremony to celebrate Class of 2001’s 25th graduation ceremony. They were an energetic and fun group who reconnected like no time had passed at all.
I was also honored to induct the Class of 1976 into the Albert J. Ruffo Golden Gavel Society in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of their graduation from our law school. To have a record-breaking number of “Golden Graduates” attend Reunion this year is a testament to the strength of the bonds that are built in this community.
Tremendous thanks to our fabulous Alumni Relations team, Dean Emerita Lisa Kloppenberg, Dean Emerita Anna Han, staff-educators, university colleagues, and community partners who made this wonderful event possible. Read the event recap here and find the event album here.
We also celebrated the Hon. Ben Galloway, J.D. ’01 and the Hon. Stephanie Grogan Jones, J.D. ’04 for their exemplary commitment to public service, as well as 26 years of partnership with the John Paul Stevens Foundation, at the Justice John Paul Stevens Distinguished Alumni Award Celebration.
In front of loved ones, peers, and faculty mentors, Judge Galloway and Judge Grogan Jones spoke of the life-changing impact of their education at Santa Clara Law and the continued support of the family they built during their time at law school.
I invite our graduates to continue making new memories at our upcoming Santa Cruz Alumni Gathering on Sunday, November 8 and Young Alumni Sharks Night Out on Monday, November 9th.
While the Santa Clara University campus and the individuals who make up our community have certainly grown and transformed over the years, our shared values and experiences last a lifetime.
With warm regards and great gratitude,
Michael J. Kaufman
Dean and Professor of Law
