Dear Friends,

In this season of awe, in which we reaffirm our collective gratitude for the blessing of Creation and renew our collective vows to work together for Justice, I wish each of you and your loved ones L’Shana Tova: a happy, healthy, peaceful, and joyous New Year! 

This is not just a season of renewal, it is also a season of reunion. I want to remind you all that our annual law school Grand Reunion is just a few weeks away. Reunion is a special time to relive the memories of the past and to make new ones with this cherished Santa Clara Law community. Whether you graduated this past spring, 25 years ago, or 50 years ago, you will be met with open arms and have a great time connecting and reconnecting with other alumni, faculty, staff, and students. There is still time to register, and I hope to see you there.

Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting Santa Clara Law alumni in-person in Seattle. As always, I was delighted to hear about the work they’ve done, the impact they’ve made on the people around them, and how they’ve grown as stewards of justice since graduating from our law school. Many thanks to Robert Half for graciously hosting us at their beautiful Seattle office. Robert Half will also be hosting our Dallas mixer on September 24, so be sure to register if you are in the area.

By popular demand, our Young Alumni Sharks Night Out is back! Any recent alumni who will be in the Bay Area on November 9th should join us for a special San Jose Sharks experience at SAP Center. Thank you to Law Advisory Board members Andy Kryder and Omar Habbas for making this event possible. 

Last week, we also announced our Law Alumni trip, which will be taking place in Barcelona, Spain next June. Join us for a once-in-a-lifetime, five star experience that will combine visits to Barcelona’s most treasured holy places and iconic landmarks, exclusive dining experiences, professional development, and the opportunity to reconnect and build lasting friendships with fellow Santa Clara Law graduates. In addition to the exciting activity around our alumni, there are great things happening across the law school. We continue to build on our top ranked Tech Law program, including by bringing to our community Erika Douglas and Lydia de la Torre, who will further strengthen our privacy law program leadership. Erika and Lydia have contributed significant scholarship in the area of privacy law, and we are grateful to have them impart their expertise with our students, especially given our location in the heart of Silicon Valley. 

Our new High Tech edition of Discern Magazine delves deeper into the many other avenues through which we are leading, challenging, collaborating, and innovating at the intersection of technology and law. I hope you’ll take the time to read it and learn something new, get inspired, get curious—or all of the above.
