Happy International Women’s Day!  

Today, March 8, 2021 is International Women’s Day, celebrated around the world from Cambodia to Croatia to honor women’s achievements, raise awareness against bias and take action for equality. International Women’s Day has been observed by the United Nations since 1975 and is a public holiday in many countries around the world. In some countries, International Women’s Day is celebrated as Mother’s Day. 

Here are some ways that you can recognize the holiday: 

• Celebrations have moved online this year and you have the opportunity to participate in events held from Malaysia to Mexico.  See virtual events around the world by country and city here: https://www.internationalwomensday.com/Events. 
• The San Jose Public Library has resources to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women throughout history.  Browse their curated list of books on the theme "Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to be Silenced".
