
Join us for the 3rd Annual Camino de los Muertos this Saturday, November 1st, as the SCU campus transforms for a vibrant, traditional Día de los Muertos celebration!
The event is coordinated by SCU in partnership with the Mexican Consulate of San Jose and Univision 14. The entire celebration is FREE and open to the public.
Event Schedule and Festivities
The day begins with a special mass, followed by an evening of cultural celebration:
- 4:00 PM: Special All Saints Day Mass in the Mission Church
- 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM: Festivities Kick-Off across the SCU Campus
What to Expect (5 PM – 9 PM)
Experience the culture with activities for all ages:
- Cultural altars (ofrendas) dedicated to departed loved ones
- Authentic food vendors & artisanal vendors
- Live Mariachi and traditional dances
- Arts & Crafts for the community
- A special showcase of SCU students dressed as Catrinas by Mexican Artist Ana Gia
Volunteer Opportunities: Get Involved!
We are seeking SCU community members for various volunteer roles throughout the day and during the event.
You will be contacted that afternoon with your specific volunteer assignment details.
Contribute to the Community Altars (Ofrendas)
We invite the SCU community to honor a loved one(s) by sharing a framed photo for one or more community ofrendas.
SCU Inclusive Excellence Altar (Event Day)
- Pre-Event Drop-off: Bring your framed photo to Suite 120 Nobili Hall (first floor) from 9 AM - 5 PM through this Friday, October 31st.
- OR Bring Directly: Place your framed photo on the Inclusive Excellence ofrenda at the event (5 PM - 9 PM). Ofrenda will be set-up during the day.
Mission Church Public Altar (Month-Long Display)
This ofrenda will remain up throughout the entire month of November.
- Please bring your framed photo directly to the Mission Church to contribute to this public altar.
