Dear Retired Faculty and Faculty on Phased Retirement,
Welcome to the 2023-2024 academic year! We particularly welcome those of you who have just retired or recently started phased retirement. We’re delighted to have you join our community of retired and retiring SCU faculty. Be sure to check out the Retirement website with info about resources, benefits and privileges, and our faculty group for retired and retiring faculty.
We’ll be issuing occasional “Retiree Updates” (as we did last year) to communicate events, information, and resources.
This issue contains:
- a few announcements
- an overview of forthcoming events for the quarter
- a list of events further out to mark the dates on your calendars
Osher
As many of you know, the University will provide one year of free membership in the Osher Lifelong Learning Program to new SCU retirees. Contact Andrea Saade regarding the free membership, and see the Osher website for more info and the fall quarter course catalog.
Retiree Contact List
Retirees (especially new retirees) are invited to access the Retiree Contact List and to opt in to have their own names added to the list.
Stanford “Another Look” Book Club
SCU retiring and retired faculty have been invited to participate in Stanford University’s “Another Look” Book Club. The group, which meets three times each year in hybrid format (both in-person and online), is sponsored by the Stanford Humanities Center, the Continuing Studies Program, and the Division of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages. The group reads classic books that have been forgotten, neglected, or simply haven’t received the attention they merit. Panelists present initial remarks prior to the discussion. Readings and dates will be announced to members. Sign up here to be added to the mailing list.
