Arriving at the City, 1993
A herd of llamas slowly makes its way along the road towards the city.
As La Paz is the center for commerce, government and labor, all roads
in the Altiplano lead there and its satellite municipality, El Alto.
The haze surrounding Mt. Huayna Potos (19,975 ft. / 6,088m), in the
Cordillera Real, settles over the cities below, a result of
the growing industrialization and the increasing use of motorized
vehicles. Paralleling the road are a series of high-tension electrical
towers, yet another indication of the expanding influence of development
in the Altiplano and the spreading reliance upon urban production.
