California History Docents

2012-2013 Docents

The de Saisset's California History Docents are an integral part of the Museum. They serve as an important resource to our community by providing informative and engaging tours to hundreds of school children and adults annually. Specializing in early California history from pre-European contact through the Mission period, the docents offer tours of the permanent California History exhibition at the de Saisset, Mission Santa Clara de Asís, and the surrounding Mission gardens.

Prior to giving tours, docent volunteers undergo a comprehensive training program on California history taught by experts and scholars from Santa Clara University and beyond. Following completion of this training program, each docent commits to giving 3-4 tours per academic quarter and to attending monthly docent meetings. Docents also receive continuing education through monthly guest speakers and periodic field trips.

The de Saisset Museum anticipates holding the next docent training session in Fall 2012. If you are interested in learning about the program, please contact Lindsey Kouvaris, Assistant Director, Exhibitions and Programs, at or 408.554.4528.
